Chicago North Shore! Get Creative Photographing Your Family This Holiday Season!
This year, elevate the way you capture your family and holiday traditions. Take a bit of time to plan a few shots of the kids or family heirlooms. Include your children in the planning process. Kids of all ages will have ideas on how they want to be photographed.
If you want detailed explanations of shot set up and camera settings, check out my Holiday Photography Guide! The guide introduces basic photography skills, including review of the exposure triangle; aperture, shutter speed and ISO. This discussion will improve your photography skills to capture holiday light bokeh, holiday silhouettes and your holiday traditions in natural window light settings.
Holiday lights create beautiful bokeh and create a festive feel to all your holiday photographs. You can use the light from any indoor or outdoor lighting decorations.
HOLIDAY LIGHTS AS THE PRIMARY LIGHT SOURCE
To really achieve the holiday vibe in your photographs, use your holiday lights as the primary light source in your scene. This could be your Christmas tree, Menorah or other decorative string lights. This results in moody images with strong shadows and a lot of contrast. These pictures are best captured at night.
WINDOW LIGHT
Use the natural light from a window to illuminate your family traditions and heirlooms
SILHOUETTE
Turn off all the lights in the room and use only the light from your tree to put your child into shadow.
