Female Founders of Chicago: When Is It Time To Update Your Brand Photos?

Refreshing personal brand photos is essential for small business owners and entrepreneurs to
stay relevant, authentic, and aligned with their evolving goals.

MY OWN PERSONAL BRAND PHOTO SESSION

In 2024 I invested in my own personal brand photo session.

Let me tell you the reasons why it was time!

APPEARANCE CHANGE:
Anytime there is a significant change in your own appearance or a rebrand to your business, it is a good idea to update your images so they align with your current identity. The last time I had my pictures taken for my business was May of 2022, a substantial time gap. The realization that my photos needed an update struck me during a recent networking 1:1 encounter. As I met someone new, it became apparent that she had been expecting a long-haired blonde. My current hairstyle is dark short hair.  We need to be recognizable!

NEW AND REFRESH
I have been using the same images for a couple of years. The images were starting to feel overused and I was craving fresh, engaging content that would align with my evolving business goals.  It was important for me to stay up-to-date for my community.

VARIETY
While I love the photos from 2022, I recognized the need for more variety.  While, the session in 2022 captured my brand’s mood, energy and color palette beautifully, it did not showcase the entirety of my business process. It was important to me to have a more diverse selection in terms of multiple outfits, locations, and showcase different aspects of my personality.  One outfit and location from the first session simply didn't suffice; I needed a more comprehensive gallery.

SAVES TIME:
A significant time-saving aspect was also a driving force behind this decision. Overused images meant I was constantly investing time in creating new visual content on my own, including self-portraits. Realizing that dedicating one day to creating a diverse array of content could save time in the long run became a compelling reason to invest in a branding photo session.

DIVERSE VAULT OF IMAGES:
As the demands of my content creation increased, so did the need for a diverse vault of images. I wanted a collection of images that I could easily pull from and seamlessly integrate into various aspects of my business, including emails, blogs, social media, sales pages, and client guides. I knew the photographer I used for my branding portrait session would incorporate multiple locations, outfits, poses, emotions, and styles so I would walk away with a diverse collection of pictures.

EVOLUTION OF BUSINESS:
As I delved deeper into the personal branding niche of photography, my business goals, ideal community, experience, and expertise expanded and evolved. It became essential for my images to align with these evolving aspects of my business, keeping them relevant and current.

A brand photo session isn’t just about updating your appearance, it is about staying in sync with the shifts of your business, the expansion of your community and personal brand.
