5 Tips for Capturing The Memories of Halloween
It is Halloween! Are your little goblins and ghosts ready for the big day? How are you preparing for the day and getting ready to document this yearly event? Here are a few things to try and capture when trick or treating!
1. Snap a portrait of the kids in the costume - you might want to grab this before they go out, especially it its cold and you know they are going to need jackets covering up those adorable costumes. If this is the case, try positioning the kids just inside the front door and snap a few of the kiddos. You will keep them warm and still get enough light on your little monsters. Do three shots - 1. Stand back and get their whole body in the frame. 2. Move in a bit and get from waist up, 3. Close up shot of their shoulders and head.
2. Step back and get some action shots! This might be as they are running from house to house, quickly leaving a home, ringing a doorbell, walking with friends, or going through their loot at the end of the night.
3. Get some detail shots. This might be a close up of candy in their hands, a distinguishing element of their costume, their trick or treat bag or even the decorations around your home. These details are great when creating a scrapbook or yearly family album as they add to your family's story.
4. Capture traditions - this can be carving the pumpkin, roasting pumpkin seeds, perhaps you have a group of friends you always trick-or-treat with and grab a group shot for the year.
5. Include the adults. We have a great group of friends we get together with when trick or treating. Many of the adults get into the spirit of the day and dress up, so I always grab a few shots of to document those memories.
Most importantly, have fun and keep shooting - you never know what you will capture!
